Watch Fall Out Boy perform ‘Centuries’ on Jimmy Kimmel
The band performed their brand new single on the US TV show earlier this week.
It barely feels like two minutes since Fall Out Boy made their long-awaited return with fifth album ‘Save Rock And Roll’, but - despite not yet completing its full album cycle - they’re already back and rolling out new material like there’s no tomorrow.
Having first debuted their new single ‘Centuries’ on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show last week, the Chicago foursome have now turned to US television to give it a first airing too.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live earlier this week, their live rendition of the track packed more of a gritty punch, with Patrick Stump even venturing away from his trusty microphone stand for some of the more intense moments during his verses.
“The idea of the song is a David vs Goliath story,” the band’s Pete Wentz told DIY ahead of the track’s first play last week. “When we were growing up it was like, ‘We’ll never be U2 because we’re from the suburbs of Chicago and nothing happens here,’ but the idea now is to inspire that kid - you can be the person up on stage and it’s only the power of your belief that is going to get you there… I think people will have an immediate visceral reaction it. The kind of art I want to be involved in should inspire a reaction!
“With this song, Patrick [Stump] just put his foot to the pedal and woosh out it came. I was like, ‘Holy shit, we haven’t even finished touring the last record yet!’ But it felt like the song was that imminent that we needed to do it.”
