It’s a Saturday night. You’ve just finished hanging out at the DIY London All-Dayer, you’ve had some drinks and you’re not quite ready for things to finish just yet. What better way to ease in the early hours of Sunday than by grabbing a few mates, grabbing a few crates and heading back to someone’s flat? Better yet, you can stick on some music and really keep things going.
Luckily, Blessa know exactly what to do when it comes to these situations: not only will the band be gracing us with their presence at the Hackney gig this weekend, but they’ve supplied the perfect after party playlist too.
“Whenever I’ve had people over to my flat after a night out, I have on several occasions had an overwhelming desire to put on ‘Good Morning, Captain’ by Slint,” the band told DIY of the inspiration behind their choices. “In the past I have been subjected to everything from Bright Eyes to Phillip Glass at flat parties. It’s not right. Should you decide to play the role of gracious host you have a responsibility to make sure people don’t totally regret their decision by playing music that bums everybody out. Like Boyz 2 Men, it should be ‘not too hard, not too soft’. Here’s our guide to the late night flat party.”
William Onyeabor - Atomic Bomb
Good name - start the night off right.
Adult Jazz - Springful
Not out of place amongst a playlist of bangers.
How To Dress Well - & It Was U
Someone will try and sing falsetto when you put this on.
Animal Collective - My Girls
Try and hold out for the chorus before people switch it off.
LCD Soundsystem - You Can’t Hide / Shame On You
Originally written for running, but fine for sitting too.
Caribou - Can’t Do Without You
The best song.
The Juan MacLean - A Simple Design
Great synths, great vocal, great drums. Great.
Jessy Lanza - Fuck Diamond
This is close to what Blessa will sound like in 2015.
Bonobo - Cirrus
Darkside - A1
Alvvays - Party Police
Album of the summer.
Tei Shi - Bassically
How can we sound more like this?
Todd Terje - Delorean Dynamite
It’s pronounced Ter-hey.
Chuck Brown - Bustin’ Loose
Girl Band - Lawman
To freak people out and make them leave.
