JLYY haunt the senses with debut EP, ‘Island’
South London force are readying their first release this March.
For the past few months, JLYY have been bringing attention to their uncompromising wall of sound and their own club nights, Truth Mic, scattered across London. People might still be confused as to whether you pronounce it as “July” or the slightly ironic “Jolly”, but they’ve established a style that cannons off the walls, strips the senses of all normality.
A sea of chants, vicious guitar stabs and percussion that wouldn’t look out of place in a hardcore punk stand-off, their debut EP ‘Island’ is a great introduction. Out 2nd March, the whole thing is streaming below on DIY. With little interruption, six tracks seamlessly bend into shape, forming a sound that comes off like a thousand drunken cries and euphoric embraces crammed into twenty bold minutes.
Listen to JLYY’s ‘Island’ EP below. Their Truth Mic night lands at London’s Old Blue Last on 4th March.
