New music guide The Neu Bulletin (30th March 2015)
DIY’s new music tips, featuring JUNK, The Yetis and Kid Wave.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE GIG:
Kid Wave
London, Rough Trade West
Ahead of their ‘Wonderlust’ album, daydreamers Kid Wave showcase the best of their fuzz-embellished blast with a free show at Rough Trade West.
THE BIG NEU THING:
The Yetis - Mysterion
Swiftly following the beachcomber of a single ‘Little Surfer Girl’, Allentown’s The Yetis have followed it up with the ‘50s-indebted, sweet-tasting ‘Mysterion’. Taking notes from Alex Turner’s sentiment-first songwriting, this one lives somewhere between the ‘Submarine’ soundtrack and a sugar-addicted teen’s homework book.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
JUNK - Matches
Taken from the maddeningly addictive ‘Car’ EP, York trio JUNK’s ‘Matches’ is a divine glimpse into their giddy garage punk. Sitting alongside Parquet Courts’ Brooklyn-bred boredom and a more carefree, slacker-first mentality, it’s a tough game trying to find a band more easily loveable than JUNK.
