The Black Eyed Peas man took over a disused runway last week, which played host to 10,000 individual, motion-sensitive lasers. It was then will.i.am’s task to hit the lasers at the correct speed - using the navigation of Lexus NXs’ - in order to trigger the right rhythms at the right time and in turn, recreate the track.
The process saw will.i.am collaborating with three stunt drivers to help navigate the ‘sound-road’ while it was pitch black.
will.i.am said: “I’m always looking at fresh ways to make music, so when the team at Lexus asked if I thought it was possible to use the Lexus NX to re-create one of my tracks and turn MPH into BPM, it was a no-brainer. Working with the stunt guys to hit the laser targets in time with the music wasn’t easy to get right but the result was awesome. The combination of technology, design and music in this project was truly inspiring.”
