Black Peaks’ Brighton picks

The Brighton bruisers pick their favourites from the South Coast hotbed’s overflowing scene.

Black Peaks’ debut album ‘Statues’ comes riding one hell of a wave. From Zane Lowe nods to a live show gaining notoriety across the globe, theirs is a hype that’s leapfrogging buzz and heading straight for the big leagues.

It helps that they’ve emerged from one of Britain’s most fertile soils. A shining light of the south coast, Brighton’s scene is fast becoming the go-to for all things downtrodden and dirty. From stoner-rock to sludge, via math and metalcore, there’s all manner of treats to uncover amongst the pebbled beaches. Below, Black Peaks take us through some of the city’s finest.

Architects (‘Broken Cross’)

Best metal band to have come out of Brighton. Period. SO damn good!

Tigercub (‘Antiseptic’)

Three short minutes of pure dirt and groove. These guys have nailed it on their latest EP and it became a staple travelling around Europe on our last tour.

Broker (‘Nature’s Humans’)

This is one band we have probably played with more than any other. They embody all the ‘don’t give a fuck’ in their music and we love them to bits.

InTechnicolour (‘Lend Me A Crushed Ear’)

These guys are pretty new on the Brighton scene but all come from some other pretty awesome bands. We went to see them live a few months back and they were amazing. It’s great to see a new Brighton stoner rock band pop up.

Demob Happy (‘Junk DNA’)

This is a rad song off an even radder album! These guys continue to step it up and give Brighton another reason to feel proud of the music that seems to come out of this place.

The Physics House Band (‘Abraxical Solapse’)

The Physics House Band need to put out some new music. Simple as that. It’s been too long and yet their first EP still gets listened to regularly in our tour van. For fans of Mars Volta.

The Xcerts (‘Live Like This’)

We were lucky enough to catch these guys at a few festivals this summer and each time were totally floored by their performance. We really don’t have enough good things to say about this band! We are proud to be from the same city.
