On their second album ‘Fall Forever’, Fear of Men deliver striking pop juggling countless emotions at once. Sometimes the heart shatters into pieces, other moments offer blinding optimism. At its best, the record plunges into complete darkness.
But when they’re not offering experiences like this, Fear of Men are having lots and lots of fun. The Brighton group recently went on UK dates with Eagulls, plus a big U.S. tour - SXSW shows included - and they’ve kindly shared exclusive photos of exactly what they got up to. Helen Brown (Dog in the Snow) and Natasha Parish took the shots, which you can see below.
Here’s what Fear of Men’s Jessica Weiss had to say about their Stateside trip.
“We played a few shows with Eagulls at the start of the year to test out some new songs live. They’re one of our favourite bands to play with - we had some really fun shows. Then we flew to the States for SXSW - it was our second time here. Last time we played about fifteen shows, but this time we cut back a bit to six and actually got to see the city. We swam with blind salamanders at Barton Springs, ate loads of BBQ food and got drunk in hammocks at the Vans house. I fell out of my hammock just after the photo…
“It felt great performing songs from ‘Fall Forever’ for the first time. At SXSW you never get a soundcheck, you just have to show up and play, so every show had a nervous energy and tension that seemed to fit well with our set. Then we flew to New York to play at Rough Trade. Always one of our favourite cities to be in, and this was a really special visit. It was beautiful to catch up with lots of friends and Kanine, our label based in Brooklyn. Perfect night. Touring the record is just around the corner and I can’t wait.”
