Buzzier than a swarm of bees heading out for an evening on the tiles, and with a debut still on the way, Lewis Del Mar arrive at Reading today a fairly unknown quantity; by the end of their set they’ve more than won over Festival Republic. A strange, unwieldy blend of textures that pays no heed to genre, they collide sharp, angular guitars with drifting acoustics; hefty funk bass lines with delicately plucked melodies.
A man of few words – preferring to cram in as many songs as possible, he says - frontman Danny Miller uses his effortless presence to do the talking instead (aside from a quick remark about how bloody hot it is out today). Pulling strained expressions, throwing himself onto the floor, unleashing delicate falsetto, and marvelling at his skilled bandmates in equal measure, Lewis Del Mar live up to the buckets of hype this afternoon. Get in the sea? More like get in our ears.
