Holy smokes: Watch Angel Olsen perform ‘Give It Up’ in a church

It’s a stripped-back but enchanting version of the ‘MY WOMAN’ track.

Late last year, NPR asked singer-songwriter Angel Olsen to join them in the Bronx’s Fordham University Church for a session. The results were, well, angelic.

Playing completely alone on electric guitar in the empty church, Angel performed a stripped back version of ‘Give It Up’ from her latest album ‘MY WOMAN’. It was a setting that only served to enhance the yearning nature of the otherwise lively track’s lyrics. Throughout the record Angel challenged herself to explore the limits of communicating with her audience. Well, on this performance she’s literally preaching from the pews, delivering a sermon you don’t want to miss.

Watch her perform ‘Give It Up’ below. Read our interview with Angel from last year here, and all.
