Following in the footsteps of David Bowie, Massive Attack, David Byrne and Guy Garvey, M.I.A. is set to curate this year’s Meltdown Festival at London’s Southbank Centre in June.
In a statement, M.I.A. herself hinted at the possibility that the festival will revolve around some of the themes explored in her recent album ‘AIM’, such as borders and refugees. She said: For me this Meltdown will be about putting on a musical week that shows different types of music which have inspired each other to exist.” She continued to say: “Genres that support other genres, redefining the concept of a melting pot. Respect the history, don’t live in it. I plan to bring together music’s best forward thinkers who have contributed to all our lives. When music acts as inspiration, it’s boundary-less.”
Line-up details will be revealed in the coming months.
Meltdown takes place between 9th-18th June at London’s Southbank Centre. For more information, visit the Southbank Centre website.
