At the end of last year, Oxford quartet Low Island made a stunning entry with their debut EP ‘Just About Somewhere’, with an experimental nature not dissimilar to that of Radiohead. That EP’s track ‘End Piece’ “occupies the middle ground between Thom and co.’s ‘In Rainbows’ electronic wizardry and the the life-affirming bangers of Caribou,” and its follow-up, new single ‘Holding It Down’, is just as compelling.
Silky, menacing vocals work their way around a synth line that slowly rises into a cacophony of noise, joined by a house-tinged lead line that takes ‘Holding It Down’ away from the bedroom and the long walk and onto the dancefloor.
The band are set to play a ‘Low Island and Friends’ headline show at London’s in April. A headline tour follows in June. View the dates below.
