Cover lovers: Listen to Father John Misty and Foxygen cover the Velvet Underground

Listen to Father John Misty and Foxygen cover the Velvet Underground

The tracks are part of the new score for Eddie O’Keefe’s film ‘Shangri-La Suite.’

Last year Eddie O’Keefe released his film ‘Shangri-La Suite,’ which centred around a young man and his girlfriend heading off to Los Angeles to kill Elvis Presley in 1974.

Mike Griffin and Mike Schanzlin, better known as Mondo Boys, were in charge of the soundtrack, and they’ve now shared it on SoundCloud in the form of a 30 minute mixtape. It features actor Burt Reynolds (who narrated the film) and contributions from both Father John Misty and Foxygen. The latter’s Jonathan Rado took on ‘I Found A Reason’ from the album ‘Loaded.’

Papa John has also gone for a cut from ‘Loaded,’ putting his own spin on ‘Who Loves The Sun.’ Well, maybe it was only a matter of time before we heard him cover the Velvet Underground. He did once have a pretty weird dream about Lou Reed, after all.

Listen to the full mixtape below (Papa John’s version of ‘Who Loves The Sun’ is at 2:59 and Jonathan’s take on ‘I Found A Reason’ is at 22:22). Check out our recent interview with Papa John here.
