Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Elkka.
At the end of last year, we featured singer/producer Elkka’s ambitious single ‘Try’ on Neu, a track that’s “like hearing the fabric of R&B and garage combined and flipped upside down, to the point where everyday expectations are thrown to one side.”
She’s now returned with ‘Touch’, a cover of Rui Da Silva’s 2011 track ‘Touch’, which was actually produced by Elkka herself. With a surprising and innovative past behind her, she’s throwing herself headfirst into a solo career that’s just getting more interesting.
‘Touch’ is packed full of intricate, flashy production, but, unlike the output many similar producers, doesn’t fall into the trap of bogging itself down with details - Elkka’s vocals and the track’s punchy chorus are simply magnified, rather than masked.
The video for the single tracks a day in the life of the producer, trying to rescue a break-up before drowning her sorrows in the best way possible.
