Neu Pick: Polyplastic are irresistible on ‘Cherry Nails’

Polyplastic are irresistible on ‘Cherry Nails’

The single, half of a debut AA-side, is today’s Neu Pick.

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Polyplastic.

There’s little yet known about duo Polyplastic (whose name recently changed from HVAC), but debut single ‘Cherry Nails’ does the talking on its own.

Thundering, unwavering drums are set below Joy Division-inspired cold guitar lines, on top of which Charlie Ellis weaves his tales. Scratchy guitars and harmonies struggle to keep up with the drums, feeling like a runaway train, but ‘Cherry Nails’ never feels out of control.

The track’s video is suitably retro, looking like an ’80s montage beamed through a tiny, fuzzy telly. It creates an atmosphere that makes ‘Cherry Nails’ feel even more at home.
