South Shields singer-songwriter Nadine Shah recently revealed that her latest album ‘Holiday Destination’ would be out on 25th August through 1965 Records, whetting the appetite with the scathing ‘Out The Way’.
The track focuses on Shah’s position as a second-generation immigrant whose identity comes into question by society, and in the new video, directors handheldcineclub have used the Salem witch trials as a metaphor for the contemporary experience of immigrants. Shot in stark black and white, it’s an intense watch that makes a clear, unfiltered message.
Speaking of the video, Nadine said: “The video is a response to this current global rise in nationalism, this awful rhetoric of “us and them”. I wanted the image to shock the viewer to highlight the brutality we are seeing happen. This is why we use the Salem witch trials as a reference in the video, to me that’s how it feels but with certain pockets of faiths being targeted.”
