Recently, Sampha’s been dropping a bit of tie-in material to accompany his debut album ‘Process’.
He recently dropped a film of the same name, which was directed by Khalil Joseph (the man behind Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade’) and now he’s giving his vision a bit more of a physical form with a brand new zine. Called ‘Shy Light’, it’ll see Sampha collaborating with designer Grace Wales Bonner, the Durimel brothers and director Jamie Reid.
The zine will include lyrics from the album, photos from Sampha’s own personal archive and images taken in Freetown in Sierra Leone by the Durimels. Speaking of the project, Sampha said: “I want to thank Grace and Jamie for all the work and love they’ve put into creating Shy Light. It’s been a pleasure collaborating and inspiring to work with such driven and visionary individuals. We also had the great fortune of shooting in Sierra Leone with the Durimel brothers”.
No specific date has yet been set for the release of the zine, though it is expected to be available next month. In the meantime, Sampha’s given a sneak digital peek of what to expect via WeTransfer, which you can check out here.
In the meantime, get your hankies ready again and revisit ‘(No One Knows Me) Like The Piano’ below.
Sampha will play Lowlands (18th-20th August), where DIY is an official media partner. Tickets are on sale now. Visit diymag.com/presents for more information.
