If bounding on stage spraying a water pistol is any indication of how much fun the following set will be, then Declan McKenna’s entrance onto the John Peel Stage at Glastonbury this afternoon predicts the carnage before it even begins. Sporting a dashing sparkly jacket, the singer proceeds to give the extremely full tent a mid-afternoon shot in the arm.
Winning the festival’s Emerging Talent Competition in 2015, earning a slot on the William’s Green stage, before graduating up to the Park Stage last year, Glastonbury’s obviously special to our Dec, and amongst a forthcoming summer jam-packed with festival after festival, today feels like a standout.
Bobbing around the front rows for a great deal of the set, the singer’s transformation into a fully-formed frontman is well underway, and there’s no phasing the youngster as he crashes through the rapturously received ‘Isombard’ and ‘Brazil’. As Glastonbury 2017 rolls through to its first full evening, Declan McKenna gives us some well deserved afternoon delight.
