Filming in England and Scotland has started on Working Title Films’ new feature production.

Filming in England and Scotland has started on Working Title Films feature production Mary, Queen of Scots and the first image of Saorise Ronan in the title role has been released (see it above).

Mary, Queen of Scots explores the life of Mary Stewart (Ronan) after the death of her husband the King of France when she was just 18 years of age. Defying pressure to remarry she returns to her native Scotland in a bid to reclaim her rightful throne despite Scotland coming under the rule of Elizabeth I (Margot Robbie). Rivals in power and in love, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth’s sovereignty.

Marking the directorial debut of Josie Rourke – artistic director of The Donmar Warehouse – Mary, Queen of Scots also stars Jack Lowden (Dunkirk), Joe Alwyn (The Sense of an Ending), Martin Compston (Line of Duty), Brendan Coyle (Downton Abbey), David Tennant (Broadchurch) and Guy Pearce (LA Confidential).

Mary, Queen of Scots will be released in UK cinemas courtesy of Universal Pictures in 2018.
