‘Me Gusta’ is the singer’s new track and features German rapper Afro B. Powered by dancefloor grooves, it’s another step on Lao Ra’s path to becoming…well, pretty massive, we reckon.
“‘Me Gusta’,” Lao Ra says in a press release, “is about a woman who’s in control of her sexuality, looking for a situation where she doesn’t need to ask any questions, but can invite a guy to relax, drink some tequila and enjoy the moment while it lasts.
“I think it is important for women to own their desires and not be afraid of going after what they want.”
We recently spoke with the singer for a Neu feature, talking about her upbringing in Colombia and beyond. “If you think about a pineapple, it’s sweet but it’s got a kick,” she says. “I feel like if my music was food, it would taste like that.”
“I know I’m very bubbly but there’s an introspective side to all my lyrics, none of them are completely happy. They’re more about the struggles of being a young woman,” she explains.
The singer will play a headline show at London’s Archspace on 20th September. Listen to ‘Me Gusta’ below.
