Neu Pick: Oh Joy ramp up the drama on ‘Apple’

Oh Joy ramp up the drama on ‘Apple’

The Dublin trio’s dynamic, angsty new one is today’s Neu Pick.

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Oh Joy.

Dubliners Oh Joy – aka Ollie Moyles, John McDowell and Alex Cummins - have been busy supporting the likes of Pinegrove, VANT and Show Me The Body on the road over the past year. After recently sharing the thunderous ‘So Swell’ from their new double A-side single, they’re ready to reveal the flipside.

Formed over a love of Elliott Smith, Nirvana, and all things melodramatic, each of these elements comes together at the heart of new one ‘Apple’. With guitars that move from creeping intensity to blistering, clashing ferocity within the blink of an eye and Ollie’s vocals twisting and turning, occasionally turning to frenzied yelps, it’s a dramatic and dynamic burst of energy in under three minutes.

Oh Joy will be playing a single release show at Whelan’s in Dublin tomorrow (1st November), with tickets on sale now.
