GRDNS craft epic psych-pop on ‘Night Dance’

The Bradford bunch’s soaring, cosmic debut single is today’s Neu Pick.

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from GRDNS.

Bradford bunch GRDNS are gearing up to release an upcoming EP later this year on Dance To The Radio which, as the four-piece say themselves, will probably be “inspired by classic psych sounds of the 60s and aim to juxtapose them with something modern, creating a meandering flow with a relentless drive, an urban kick with a touch of class, hard as the deserts rocks in the damp of an English forest and so on…”

Before that though they’re airing their first single, ‘Night Dance’, described by frontman Jacob Lyons as a “tantric tale of a quiet night in with a supernatural cosmic titan of a lover with atomic eyes”. And it’s every bit as epic as that description sounds. Produced by James Kenosha (known for working with Pulled Apart By Horses), it’s a swirl of woozy cosmic melodies, soaring, reverb-filled vocals and harmonies, as well as a killer guitar solo that pierces through the track. For a first step, it sees them establishing some serious ground force.

GRDNS are set to play at the Chapel in Leeds with Husky Loops and whenyoung on 27th February. They’ll also be hitting Live At Leeds on 5th May alongside The Horrors, The Magic Gang, Pulled Apart By Horses and more.
