Neu Pick: Tony Njoku shares the swirling ‘As We Danced’

Tony Njoku shares the swirling ‘As We Danced’

The singer’s debut album is out at the end of the month.

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Tony Njoku.

London-based songwriter/producer Tony Njoku is releasing his debut album ‘H.P.A.C.’ on 27th April 2018 via Silent Kid Records, and its latest preview, new single ‘As We Danced’, is today’s Neu Pick.

The track is a swirling world of synths which whip up into a whirlwind, not too dissimilar from those created by James Blake in his earliest stages. Vocals then enter, and just add to the intoxicating cocktail.

Speaking of the track in a press release, Tony says: “‘As We Danced’ is probably the most romantic song I’ve ever written. Lyrically, it’s a poem of love, passion, grandeur and on into manipulation and finally emancipation.

“But structurally…I imagined a kind of Greek tragedy; from pleasure to suffering to catharsis.”
