David Byrne And St Vincent Appear On Letterman

Duo perform ‘I Should Watch TV’ on TV.

David Byrne and St Vincent have been collaborating for a long time; prior to their ‘Love This Giant’ album of last year. The Talking Heads’ frontman and Annie Clark had been performing live together occasionally since 2009, when they met at a Radio City Music Hall benefit concert for a AIDS/HIV charity. And this week, fresh from an Australian tour, they took their partnership on to late night television, performing on ‘Letterman’.

The irony of performing ‘I Should Watch TV’ on tv wasn’t lost on the seminal New Wave-r, as he wrote to fans in a newsletter, prior to filming the show, saying; ‘The meaning and significance of doing that song on TV is making my head go funny. […] I hope we’re good.’

‘Love This Giant’ is out now, via 4AD. The album is also up for ‘Best Recording Package’ at this year’s Grammy’s; which is apparently a terribly fancy way of saying that it has lovely cover art and might get a prize for that. Other nominees (for which the award goes to the Art Director, rather than the artist) include Bjork’s ‘Biophilia’ and ‘Swing Lo Magellan’ by Dirty Projectors, and the winner will be announced on February 10th.
