DIY Albums Of The Year: The Winner Is…

And the winner of our writers’ Album of the Year poll is….

It’s getting towards the end of the year, which means The Season Of The Lists. DIY is no different (sorry, list haters); we’ve been polling our crack team of writers, editors and various other helpers to pull together our albums (and a few EPs and mini albums) of the year - from a list of hundreds of nominations we’ve counted the points and come down to a top 50. Some very good records made the list, some very good records just missed out; such is democracy.

Over the past two weeks we’ve been counting down our top 50, whilst you’ve been voting in our Readers’ Album of the Year poll. That vote closes at MIDDAY TODAY, but we can now reveal our writers’ pick as Album of the Year 2010 as…..

(Drumroll)

At the end of the day, ‘High Violet’ took our poll of contributors by a considerable margin. While at the lower reaches of the countdown a single vote could move an album up the list considerably, there was rarely any doubt of The National’s place at the summit.
