Keri Russell, JJ Feild and Bret McKenzie are to star in indie romantic comedy Austenland.
Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre co-writer Jerusha Hess makes her directorial debut, after scripting the two comedies with director husband Jared Hess.
Austenland is adapted from Shannon Hale’s book, with the author working on the screenplay with Hess. The film centres on single, thirtysomething woman (Russell) with a life-ruining obsession with Colin Firth’s depiction of Pride and Prejudice’s Mr. Darcy.
As THR describes: When she decides to spend her life savings on a trip to an English resort catering to Jane Austen-crazed women, the woman’s fantasy of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman becomes more real than she could have imagined.
Centurion star Feild - next to be seen in Captain America: The Next Avenger - will play a Mr. Darcy impersonator at the resort who falls for the American. Flight of the Conchords star McKenzie, Jennifer Coolidge, Jane Seymour, Rupert Vansittart and James Callis round out the cast.
Twilight author Stephenie Meyer is producing - her first film not adapted from her novels. She’s financing through her Fickle Fish Films banner, which she runs with Meghan Hibbett. Moxie Pictures’ Gina Mingacci is also producing. Filming begins in the UK this week.
Mission: Impossible III star Russell recently wrapped Goats with David Duchovny and Vera Farmiga.
