Colleran has produced a truly awe inspiring EP.

Mmoths, or MMOTHS if we are to remain in keeping with the culture of capitalization, began life as the bedroom project of young Irishman Jack Colleran. In many ways the work of Mmoths symbolizes the overwhelming opportunities that the increasing availability of producing software and the rise of online platforms such as Soundcloud really do provide, allowing very talented souls such as Colleran to create music and share it with the world for little to no expense.

A year down the line and the culmination of bedroom recordings and inspired remixes has led to the release of ‘EP1’, an utterly beautiful blend of electronics that are somehow crafted to evolve with an aching sense of soulful intimacy. Beginning with ‘THNX’, standing at a climatic six minutes, the track eases you into Mmoths more ethereal side, steadily building with echoing beats of hollow percussion. It is the role of ‘THNX’ to take you from the daily cacophony of life’s many distracting noises, and ease you into the calming meditation the rest of the EP provides.

With the listener now fully engaged with the sound, ‘Summer’ begins entirely more upbeat, with the introduction of Superhumanoids vocals adding another dimension to the atmosphere Colleran patiently develops throughout ‘EP1’. ‘If Only’ recoils slightly back into a more chilled tempo, before then breaking into the highlight of the release, ‘Heart’. Darlings of the blogosphere, Keep Shelley in Athens could not be anymore perfect in the serene vein of vocal splendor they bring to ‘Heart’. The sound of gentle rain transcends the track, as Colleran conducts staggering subtle electronic sounds to produce not only a sound, but an entirely absorbing feeling which finely cuts to the core of your listening mind.

Ending on the aptly named ‘Breaking Through’, the afore mentioned atmosphere that has evolved throughout the EP reaches a moment of epiphany, with the abrupt ringing of bells providing the only real move away from the smoothed contours shaped in the previous tracks. By concluding on this sound, Colleran has demonstrated that not only is he capable of producing a truly awe inspiring EP, but that his next release will no doubt trump this one.
