This New York duo of distinct pop stardom potential, have all the groundworks in place for a whirlwind next twelve months.

Name: MS MR
Based: New York

With the same management team as those behind Death Cab For Cutie, Cloud Nothings and Surfer Blood, standing beside a series of pop-culture referencing music videos and one aesthetically pleasing tumblr page to boot, it’s sensible to assume that MS MR, an ‘unsigned band’ of distinct pop stardom potential, have all the groundworks for a whirlwind next twelve months.

The New York duo fit into the post-Lana flurry of acts taking on a DIY approach when arriving on the scene: If everything’s in place - the image, the songs, the videos - then a small fanbase will soon equate without the help of a big-bucks label (these will come knocking on the door in no time). In this instance, the pair’s songs have been ready to be unleashed for almost a year now, but it’s only until this month that the masses have begun to fall in love with what they’ve encountered.

On the flipside of the coin, when you’ve got all these fundamentals in place, it’s easy for the casual bystander to mistake a mediocre pop act for a formidable one. indeed, early track ‘Bones’ is a middling affair, despite its ‘Labyrinth’-citing excitability and a debut EP was riddled with highs and lows. Fortunately enough, the most recently-unveiled song, ‘Hurricane’, is a track of depth and subtlety, a breathtaking love song that’d get by without its first-class presentation skills, which you can admire below:
