DIY Film is a big supporter of rising actor Scoot McNairy, after he starred in Monsters, one of our favourite films of 2010.
After carrying Gareth Edwards’ stunning micro-budget sci-fi film, improvising with co-star and real-life wife Whitney Able, McNairy landed a high profile role opposite Brad Pitt in Cogan’s Trade.
Variety can now report his addition to the cast of Argo, Ben Affleck’s latest film as star and director. McNairy joins an ensemble that includes Bryan Cranston, John Goodman and Alan Arkin in the fact-based thriller.
Argo is adapted from Joshuah Bearman’s 2007 Wired article How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Film to Rescue Americans From Tehran, which is a pretty literal description. Affleck plays the CIA agent who fakes a movie shoot rescue US and Canadian diplomats trapped in Iran after the 1979 revolution.
Cranston is Affleck’s boss, Goodman an Oscar-winning make-up artist and Arkin a Hollywood producer. McNairy’s role is unknown.
