Every day of the week, Neu gives you a choice show and a selection of new music tips, all in the name of exposing you to something new and exciting.
HAIM, Wall, Death At Sea - Deaf Institute, Manchester
This tour is already in full swing and we’ve been hearing a few whisperings of this being one hell of a line-up. HAIM might be relatively new but their live show is pristine and perfected and could easily be applied to arena tours right this second. For now they top a bill in Manchester’s choice snug venue, with Liverpool’s Death At Sea and Black Cab signing WALL linking arms for the occasion.
KATE BOY - Northern Lights
Herein exists everything we love about Scandi-pop, all compressed into one 3 minutes, 30 seconds (the optimum pop song spanning time, obviously). Even the title makes the senses tingle. The relative anonymity of KATE BOY is spinning the rumour mill in circles, with talk of Niki and the Dove and Apparat having some involvement in this project. ‘Northern Lights’, for all its brilliance, does have the evident whiff of someone with a heck of production experience and knowledge of how all this music lark works…Regardless - it’s a stunning inaugural effort.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
It’s very unlikely that Atlanta musician Frankie Broyles watches sub-standard Mock the Week repeats, admiring the tardy obnoxious musings of a much-loathed Scottish comedian. Rather, the whole name similarities thing is bound to be a coincidence. Here’s a guy who listens to Real Estate and Deerhunter with the windows open and the great outdoors awaiting. Try ‘Capturer’ above for an indication of his stylish, progressive alternative rock and check his Soundcloud for plenty more.
