Frankie Rose - Know Me

A wonderful stopgap until what could potentially be an equally wonderful third record.

Like Dave Grohl and, erm, Phil Collins before her, Frankie Rose came into her own transitioning from drummer to charismatic frontperson. The former Crystal Stilts, Dum Dum Girls and Vivian Girls drummer made this obvious by releasing second album ‘Interstellar’ – a gorgeous eighties indebted record with enough reinvention to avoid being overly cliché.

With that said, existing fans won’t find anything new on her ‘Know Me’ EP as each of the four tracks have been available in some form or the other for months now.

For the unfamiliar though: the album’s title and highlight track sees Rose’s voice drenched in gorgeous reverb alongside Marr-esque guitars and the drumbeat from the Cure’s ‘Close To Me’. Further on, ‘Pair Of Wings’ remains her most heart-opening track as she coos: “Show me your scars / I’ll show you mine,” whilst the Go Team remix of ‘Apples For The Sun’ remains pleasant enough, if a little forgettable.

‘Know Me’ isn’t an exercise in recycling old tracks however. It feels more like a celebration of this high point in Rose’s career and provides a wonderful stopgap until what could potentially be an equally wonderful third record.
