Playlist Mazes’ Top Ten Moments in Welsh Music
The band celebrate this weekend’s Dr. Martens #STANDFORSOMETHING show in Cardiff with a suitably Welsh playlist.
On Saturday, Mazes are set to support Eagulls at the Cardiff Dr. Martens #STANDFORSOMETHING Tour in association with DIY date, at Clwb Ifor Bach.
To coincide with this, the trio - who released latest album, ‘Wooden Aquarium’ last month via FatCat (read an interview with Jack and our review at these respective links) - have let us in on their favourite Welsh musical moments.
They veer from the obvious (who’d be missing Super Furry Animals or Tom Jones?), to the current (Joanna Gruesome and Cate Le Bon), to the ‘OK we’re squeezing this one in’ (Carmarthenshire-born John Cale singing the Lou Reed-penned Velvet Underground track ‘Lady Godiva’s Operation’).
Here are their picks:
Tom Jones, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - Long Time Gone
Meic Stevens - Gwenllian
Joanna Gruesome - Sugarcrush
Y tebot piws - Mae rhywyn wedi dwyn fy nhrwyn
Super Furry Animals - Receptacle for the Respectable
Cate Le Bon - Chairs in the Dark
Heather Jones - Nos ddu
Badfinger - Come And Get It
The Velvet Underground - Lady Godiva’s Operation
Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci - Young Girls & Happy Endings/Patio Song
Mazes play the Cardiff Dr. Martens #STANDFORSOMETHING Tour in association with DIY date on Saturday 11th October at Clwb Ifor Bach. They also appear in-store at the Cardiff Dr. Martens branch at 6.30pm.
The remaining dates on the #STANDFORSOMETHING Tour are:
OCTOBER

25 We Are The Ocean + Arcane Roots: The Shipping Forecast, Liverpool
