Thom Yorke’s latest release method has clearly wormed its way into a few musicians’ brains recently: Kagoule are another band to offer up some digital treats straight from BitTorrent.
Set to release their new single ‘It Knows It’ on 7” vinyl on 1st December, the trio - who are newly signed to Nottingham’s Earache Records - have decided on doing something that little bit different for its digital release. You can now download the track, its accompanying video, some other MP3s and handwritten lyric sheets to boot, and all by simply clicking this link.
“Since I can remember I’ve downloaded music,” the band’s Cai Burns reveals, of just how their idea came to fruition. “I’ve always found new bands through torrents so it felt right to do it this way. By choosing to not use the typical methods we get to fill your hard drive with art and videos too. It’s really hard to get people to download a GIF of a man wiggling his bum any other way…“
That’s not all: the Nottingham-based trio are giving DIY a first look at the single’s new video too - a blend of distorted colour and fuzziness - which all began when the band met a man named Gareth…
“A lovely man named Gareth approached us after a gig once,” explains Burns. “A few months later we found ourselves in an old primary school with about 15 analog video mixers and tons of crappy old tv screens. Out popped a video. We thought, ‘People should know about that ragu I make sometimes’ so our mate Chris and some other folks compiled some important facts about the band to go alongside it.”
