The Washington D.C / Brooklyn label, Carpark Records, is set to celebrate its sixteenth birthday in style. Whilst a sixteenth anniversary might not usually garner much attention, Carpark have pulled out all of the stops to announce a limited 12” compilation as well as a series of live shows.
The record features nine exclusive unreleased tracks, with contributions from Toro Y Moi, Dan Deacon, Speedy Ortiz, GRMLN and more. The basketball-themed picture disk, which features hoops-based track titles such as ‘Buzzer Beater’, ‘Space Jam’ and ‘Rock, Pick, and Roll Again’ is to be released on May 26th and will be limited to a run of six-hundred copies. It also features a brilliant new Allen Inverson-sampling track from Skylar Spence (the producer formerly known as Saint Pepsi), which can be streamed below. Proceeds from the release will go Little Kids Rock, a charity focussed on providing music education for young people.
In addition to the release, Carpark are set to put on live shows in Brooklyn and Washington next month as well as curating an event at SXSW. Label favourites Cloud Nothings are on the bill along with Average Cock, a moniker adopted by Speedy Ortiz on previous occasions. Details of these shows are listed below, along with the stream for Skylar Spence’s ‘Practice’:
06 Brooklyn, NY - Baby’s All Right w/ Lexie Mountain Boys, Greg Davis, Greys & more.
07 Washington, DC – DC9 w/ Lexie Mountain Boys, Greys, Chandos, Adventure & Jimmy Whispers
19 Austin, TX – SXSW w/ Cloud Nothings, Skylar Spence (DJ), Dent May, GRMLN, Chandos, Keath Mead, Average Cock
