DIY’s daily new music tips, featuring Wyldest, Matagot and SG Lewis.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to.Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE GIG:
Wyldest, Matagot
London, The Lock Tavern
If you’re not a) at the O2 guzzling booze or b) at home guzzling booze while the BRITs is on the telly, you’re most likely Doing The Right Thing by going to a gig. The capital’s offering rich pickings, tonight. Best Friends headline The Social, Theo Verney supports Two Gallants at Islington Assembly Hall and blog-dreamboat Ryan Hemsworth headlines XOYO. But there’s also Wyldest, a North London trio spiralling into the spotlight with deft, perfectly-poised dream pop. They’re joined by Matagot, a group living south of the river, with just as much exciting potential.
THE BIG NEU THING:
SG Lewis - Warm
Say hello to SG Lewis, the latest signing to PMR (Disclosure, Jessie Ware) and its Beat Club label. New single ‘Warm’ sees the 21-year-old Reading via Liverpool resident finding a new route into glossy, romance-laced pop. Vocals wobble to the point where they sound like James Blake sitting on a washing machine, and there’s serious thought behind every sweltering synth line.
