The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE WEEKEND GIG:
Abattoir Blues, Chorusgirl, Italia 90
London, The Old Blue Last
A free new music showcase to rival the most solid Saturday plans, head down to The Old Blue Last this weekend to catch Brighton force Abattoir Blues. They’re playing alongside Chorusgirl and the (ridiculously) new Italia 90, whose debut ‘Champion’ track is a brilliant blast of sarcy punk. Fake Laugh and Oscar are on DJ duties.
THE BIG NEU THING:
Lou E - Just One Thing
Louis Milburn’s (of King TV) new project Lou E is a gorgeous bolt out of the blue. ‘Just One Thing’, a track from Beech Coma’s third compilation, would hibernate all day long if it had the chance. Giving nods to Kurt Vile’s strung out, “pillowy cloud” mentality, few introductions lure you in quite like this. Haziness has a new home.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Ella Thompson - Arcade
GL singer Ella Thompson spends half her life in the ‘80s, a shiny retro synth-influence defining her every move. When it comes to her solo work, the game’s shifted into something more star-gazing. ‘Arcade’ hits the high score, filtering Thompson’s glitch-pop obsessions into something refined and heart-stealing.
