Sharon Van Etten has shared a new track titled ‘Words’.
The new one-off release is featured in ‘Tig’, a documentary about comedian Tig Notaro. The film’s out on Netflix this week (Friday 17th July).
Directed by Kristina Goolsby and Ashley York, the film documents a stand-up performance by Notaro, who famously scrapped her prepared set and gave a now legendary, and deeply personal, performance about her battles with cancer.
“Comedian Tig Notaro had a devastating year,” says the film blurb. “Having just recovered from a life-threatening infection and still in mourning over her mother’s sudden passing, Notaro’s subsequent discovery of bilateral breast cancer left her no choice but to turn profound pain into an ongoing punch line, both on and off the stage. In Netflix’s original documentary, Tig tells the incredible story of her search and discovery of humor and love amid the devastating news.”
Using the night of the performance as the film’s starting point, the filmmakers then followed Notaro for a year, capturing her life up until an anniversary show exactly one year on.
