Interview: Mike Milosh gives update on new Rhye material: “It’s my own kind of entity

Rhye are headlining new London festival MIRRORS this October.

Earlier this week, Rhye confirmed themselves for a rare UK appearance at new London festival MIRRORS, taking place 31st October.

It’s two years since Mike Milosh and Robin Hannibal’s ‘Woman’, and in a new interview with DIY’s Larry Bartleet, Milosh confirms that he’s well on the way to recording a follow-up.

“I’m about seven songs into a new album and it’s very interesting because what I’ve done is played 200 and something shows with this group of musicians that I’ve put together, and I’ve created this sound live that’s different than the the Rhye record live, and different than my Milosh music,” he says. “It’s its own kind of entity but I feel the live performances are a lot more emotional than the record.”

‘Woman’ captured a steam-up, ultra-emotional mood, but LP2 looks set to achieve something different. “The songs aren’t super happy because I think there have been a lot of tough things that have happened to me in the last two years, and it’s definitely fallen into the record because I can’t really avoid being honest in my songs, so some of these songs are a little sad,” he says.

“The new record is very solemn. It definitely has classical roots in my mind but it’s definitely got this soul energy that is coming out of me lately when I’ve been singing. It’s soul mixed with classical, if I had to label it with a genre. It’s very emotive and emotional.”

Rhye headline MIRRORS festival (31st October), where DIY is an official media partner. Tickets are available here.
