Jarvis Cocker to bring "a voyage to the bottom of the sea" to BBC Proms

The Pulp frontman will cover songs by The Beatles and Echo and the Bunnymen at the Royal Albert Hall event.

As part of BBC’s Late Night Proms series in September, Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker will be hosting a “a voyage to the bottom of the sea” at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Along with the BBC Philharmonic orchestra, Cocker will perform songs by The Beatles and Echo and the Bunnymen, as well as stories about deep sea happenings and ocean-borne monsters. The orchestra will also perform music by John Williams, Wagner and Bach.

Speaking about his event Cocker said “For one night only the Royal Albert Hall will be transformed into a giant diving bell, taking us on a voyage to the bottom of the sea, a voyage to the bottom of ourselves. Joining me on board we have a champion free diver, a giant squid hunter, two men called Roger, psychologist Carl Jung and the BBC Philharmonic.”

The format of the night will be based on Jarvis Cocker’s Radio 4 show Wireless Nights. The event takes place on 10th September at the Royal Albert Hall. Listen to Jarvis-fronted classic ‘Do You Remember The First Time?’ below.
