Tame Impala were on typically modest form as they accepted their BRIT Award for Best International Group at the 2016 ceremony. “I was just happy for all the people at our table - the record label and stuff,” explains Kevin Parker. “They’re the ones who put all the effort into up getting to the next level. These kind of things [the award] are a physical symbol of that kind of stuff.”
“The UK was the first place we came overseas,” he continued of the importance of the isle to the Australian band, “It’s always been pretty special.”
With their win under their belts and the free booze flowing, thoughts quickly returned to the ceremony. “It’s been pretty intense - definitely the most extravagant awards show we’ve ever been to,” Parker divulged. With Rihanna performing later on in the evening, he laughed off the suggestion of a link-up after Rihanna covered the band’s ‘New Person, Same Old Mistakes’ on her recent album ‘Anti’.
“She hasn’t said hello - she was quite rude in that regard,” he laughed: “Obviously I’m joking!”
