Austra air their new video for ‘I Love You More Than You Love Yourself’

The clip takes the story of astronaut Kim Nowak as its basis.

Austra released their thought-provoking third album ‘Future Politics’ last week, and to celebrate Katie Stelmanis and co unveiled the new video for the pulsating yet tender ‘I Love You More Than You Love Yourself’.

The clip has been inspired by former US astronaut Lisa Nowak, whose assignment to NASA was terminated after she was charged with the attempted kidnapping of Air Force Captain Colleen Shipman. There’s definitely no kidnappings here. Instead, Austra have director M Blash have taken a much more compassionate route, looking at what the astronaut might have been feeling in the months leading up to her actions.

So we end up following an astronaut, played by Katie, on an ordinary day, as she attempts to conceal her identity under wigs and new clothes, indulge in a little retail therapy and goes to the club afterwards. It’s a subtle and aptly caring look at mental health.
