Album Review Frances - Things I’ve Never Said

Frances - Things I’ve Never Said

With claims flying around that we have the ‘next Adele’ on our hands, expectations may have seemed a little daunting, but Frances (aka singer-songwriter Sophie Cooke) hasn’t let that faze her. In fact, it’s almost as if she’s laughing in the face of those expectations, as she opens the album with a vocal solo on ‘Don’t Worry About Me’. Similarly, ‘Things I’ve Never Said’ is a powerful, semi-a cappella effort that definitely does not disappoint.

Although the album largely consists of raw, stripped-back numbers, there are pop touches on ‘Say It Again’ and the sunny, bouncy ‘No Matter’ that break up the record’s intensity, standing as a welcome breather from the almost overwhelming vulnerability that fuels the rest of the album.
