Alex O’Connor, better known as Rex Orange County, has shared a brand new single, and it’s probably his biggest burst of sunshine to date.
On his debut single proper, ‘UNO,’ Rex asked “how can I admit that I’m falling apart” over a hip hop inspired beat. His last track ‘Best Friend’ suggested he was moving in a slightly more uplifting direction (even if it was about the pain of being in the friend zone). With the aptly-titled ‘Sunflower’ though, he’s getting us well and truly ready for the summer. “I don’t even know why I let myself get down in the first place,” he sings over an upbeat blend of brass (which includes bursts of jazz-infused saxophone) and slightly jangly guitar riffs.
Rex has also announced that he’ll be playing another date at London’s Peckham Liberal in May (the first one sold out in just a couple of minutes!) Not only that, but he’s confirmed that he’ll be playing at Parklife and Lovebox festivals in June and July to boot. No doubt ‘Sunflower’ will sound perfect drifting across a festival crowd.

He’s still a triumph, both in the studio and on-stage.
Equal parts heart wrenching and hopeful.
The follow up to ‘Apricot Princess’ is almost here.
It’s his first official track since 2017’s ‘Loving Is Easy’.
