The band were playing Wirral Live at Tranmere Rovers’ stadium Prenton Park.

Over the weekend, The Libertines played a gig at Tranmere Rovers’ ground Prenton Park as part of the Wirral Live festival.

Before the band’s set, a certain Jeremy Corbyn emerged to give a short speech ahead of the UK’s general election on 8th June.

“Merseyside has a history of music, and is the music capital of our country,” the leader of the Labour Party said, to a pretty rapturous response.

“I want a country where everybody can play sport if they want to, every child can learn music, and society is brought together by that. Do you want housing, do you want care, and do you want a society coming together? Or, do you want selective education and fox hunting?”

Watch some highlights from the speech below.
