Starman: David Bowie convinced James Murphy to reform LCD Soundsystem

“I spent a good amount of time with David Bowie, and I was talking about getting the band back together,” Murphy told Lauren Laverne on 6Music.
LCD Soundsystem ringleader James Murphy has spoken about his friendship with David Bowie. Apparently conversations with the late icon helped to convince Murphy to reform LCD Soundsystem after the band went on hiatus in 2011.
“I spent a good amount of time with David Bowie, and I was talking about getting the band back together,” James Murphy said in an interview with 6Music’s Lauren Laverne. “He said ‘does it make you uncomfortable?’ I said ‘yeah’, and he said ‘good, it should, it should make you feel uncomfortable’.”
The pair worked together closely during the final years of Bowie’s life. Murphy played percussion on Bowie’s last album ‘Blackstar’. Bowie also provided guest vocals on Arcade Fire’s ‘Reflektor’ - which Murphy co-produced.
