It’s coming up to a year since Deap Vally released their ace album ‘Femejism’, but they’ve just released a video for ‘Turn It Off’.
In the black and white clip, the pair head into the dollhouse with none other than actress Mischa Barton. Fun fact: they actually invade Julie’s childhood dollhouses, and she says that “arranging tiny furniture is very therapeutic!”
Lindsey Troy said of the song and video: “Turn It Off is a very special song to me. Nick Zinner from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs produced our record, and this song was heavily influenced by his presence. For the video we didn’t want to do a performance video. We wanted something very stylised that featured someone other than Julie and me. Mischa was over at my place and I asked her if she’d be interested in starring in it, and she loved the idea”.
Mischa Barton said: “I think Lindsey and Julie’s music has reached a wonderful place. Not only are they two women who can really rock out, they certainly know how to stand out because they care about women’s rights, feminism & political issues. It’s been really rewarding to watch them grow as women into their own sound. ‘Turn it Off’ is one of my favourite songs on the album because it’s sexy, powerful and emotional”.
