Listen: Sufjan Stevens shares new track ‘Tonya Harding’

The one-off release is dedicated to the figure skater.
Sufjan Stevens released his new mixtape ‘The Greatest Gift’ - a series of rarities, demos and outtakes from the ‘Carrie & Lowell’ era - last month, and has already shared more new music.
Today, he’s shared a new one-off single called ‘Tonya Harding’, dedicated to the figure skater it’s named after.
“I’ve been trying to write a Tonya Harding song since I first saw her skate at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in 1991,” Sufjan wrote in a note called ‘Tonya Harding, My Star’ in a press release.
“She’s a complicated subject for a song partly because the hard facts of her life are so strange, disputable, heroic, unprecedented, and indelibly American.”
The track is out digitally today via Asthmatic Kitty. A pre-order is also available for a limited edition cassette and 7”.
