Earlier this month, Filthy Friends - the project from Corin Tucker of Sleater-Kinney and REM guitarist Peter Buck alongside Scott McCaughey, Kurt Bloch and Linda Pitmon - released their second album ‘Emerald Valley’. Now, as they gear up for a short run of UK live shows, we’re exclusively sharing their new video.
The clip for ‘Break Me’ - which features on their latest album - comes directed by renowned filmmaker Lance Bangs and you can watch it below.
“I wrote the music to ‘Break Me’ the day after Tom Petty died,” Peter Bucks explains, speaking of the track itself. “I didn’t know the guy, but he’d been in my life since high school. I was trying to capture how tough he was and yet how vulnerable to the world. The song isn’t about him, but every time I play it I think about him.”
“The ‘Break Me’ video follows a young couple (Liz and Noel) who leave their Minnesota home, travel south to the Oregon Trail and follow it to its end in Oregon City, Oregon,” Lance tells us. “I explored imagery of young relationships hitting the complications of starting new lives in a new setting, and time spent on interior life contrasting with the needs of time spent with a partner. [It’s a] great song, and I feel like the video looks like how the song sounds in my head.”
The band are also set to play a short run of UK and European shows later this month. Check out the dates below.
