After 2017’s ‘I Use To Spend So Much Time Alone’, Seattle’s Chastity Belt are officially back with a brand new self-titled album set to impact on 20th September. Made up of Julia Shapiro, Lydia Lund, Gretchen Grimm and Annie Truscott, the four-piece took a bit of a break following their last record (which we gave a cheeky four stars to, btw) in order to reconnect with what they wanted. “So much of the break was reminding ourselves to stay present, and giving ourselves permission to stop without saying when we’re gonna meet up again,” says guitarist Lydia. “It was so important to have that—not saying, ‘we’re gonna get back together at this point,’ but really just open it up so we could get back to our present connection.”
And now they’re back at their best, with their new record feeling “more [them] than ever”. Sharing newest track ‘Elena’ today, their harmonies - with each other and in the music - are on point, creating a mesmerising wave of sound. “Over the past year, we all read and loved Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan novels.” Bassist Annie explains of the new song. “We individually related to the ways in which the main character’s sense of self is inextricably linked to her desire for love and validation both from lovers and friends. The overlapping voices on top of the whimsical wave-like instrumentals captures the universal feeling of having a conversation with yourself about yourself.”
