Sharing alt-pop bop ‘By Your Side’, Crystal Fighters’ latest is all about love and friendship. “We wrote this in the leafy hills of Eagle Rock in California,” says Bast Pringle. “We were looking over the tranquil valley and reminiscing about the friendships you can always count on, no matter how hard of dark life can get. We wanted to celebrate these relationships, because in tough times reaching out to that one person who really understands felt like the only thing that could keep us going.”
Accompanied by Norwegian pop star Dagny, he adds: “Dagny is such an incredible singer and artist, whose music we love so much. We knew her voice would be so fitting for this duet and she totally delivered, really communicating such great emotion in her vocal.”
“‘Cave Rave’ was the soundtrack to my life when I first moved to London many years ago,” Dagny says. “I was obsessing over Crystal Fighters and I’ve been dreaming of going to one of their shows ever since. When they reached out to hear if I wanted to sing on their new record ‘By Your Side’ it was a pretty easy decision: hell yes. I think the song is amazing. I love the mood it puts me in!”
The accompanying video was directed by Max Sobel, and features the winning combination of loads of cute dogs. Speaking on his inspiration Max says: “This video is a playful celebration of one of the most monumental friendships in history. Our best friends as a species… the dog. We wanted to create something fun, energetic and full of surprises, a film that rejoices in the beauty of hounds but also brings some of Crystal Fighters mischievous, often surreal, personality to the party.”
