News Premiere: Mazes Unveil Video For Single ‘Bodies’

Song taken from the ‘Ores & Minerals’ album was released through FatCat on Monday, with video directed by Austin of Vision Fortune.

Three months since the release of their ambitious, experimental second album, London band Mazes have unveiled the video for its latest single.

The three-piece followed-up their slacker pop, Pavement-inspired 'A Thousand Heys' debut with the release of the loop-filled, Krautrocky 'Ores & Minerals' through FatCat back in February to critical acclaim.

Explaining the change in musical direction on the second record in an interview with DIY, vocalist and guitarist Jack Cooper said the band had stopped worrying about what people might like and wanted to make a record for themselves.

The first track debuted from 'Ores & Minerals', 'Bodies, was officially released as a digi-single through FatCat on Monday - and today DIY has its video premiere.

Directed by AC Williams of Vision Fortune, the video is six and a half minutes of portrait shots of couples sat on chairs. Explaining it, Austin says:

'The idea of the video came from the idea that we as humans are inevitably attracted to both moving image and still imagery such as photography and painting. The video explores and raises questions about the parallels between these two mediums: we see the subjects sitting as still as possible for these 'video' portraits, subtle nuances appear on closer inspection as we the audience see eyes blinking and twitching.'

It's simple but beautiful and oddly gripping. Watch it first on DIY below - and see if you can spot Jack Cooper himself:
